Stage 1: Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC)

In the first stage, warm outside air passes through a polymeric, cross-flow plate-type heat exchanger, where it indirectly transfers heat to a thin film of water without gaining any moisture. The water and air travel in separate channels, which is why it’s called “indirect” cooling. A secondary air stream helps evaporate the water and remove the heat. The result? The primary air is cooled without increasing its humidity.

Stage 2: Direct Evaporative Cooling (DEC)

The semi-cooled air from stage one then enters the second stage, where it flows through water-saturated cooling pads. Here, it undergoes further cooling and picks up a small amount of moisture, delivering cool, filtered air into the space. Despite this added humidity, the system still maintains lower relative humidity (typically below 60%) compared to conventional direct evaporative coolers.

Data centers face one common challenge ie heat. High-density servers generate enormous amounts of heat, which, if not properly managed, can lead to hardware failure, reduced efficiency, and costly downtime. To maintain the ideal temperature and humidity levels, various cooling methods are employed in data centers. Below are some common approaches:

1. Air Handling Units (AHUs): AHUs transfer heat from the data center to a cooling fluid, typically treated water, using a fan-driven heat exchanger.
2. Adiabatic Cooling: This method leverages water evaporation to reduce temperatures without relying on mechanical air conditioning systems.
3. Free Air Cooling: Utilizing natural weather conditions, free air cooling controls the temperature by introducing filtered outside air into the data center.
4. Calibrated Vector Cooling (CVC): This targeted cooling approach directs refrigerated air to the areas within high-density systems where the temperatures are highest.
5. Liquid Cooling: Specialized liquids, such as mineral oil or fluorinated fluids, are used to directly absorb and transfer heat from servers.

The ideal inlet temperature for servers ranges between 64.4°F and 80.6°F, with a relative humidity of 40% to 60%. Maintaining these conditions is critical to ensuring equipment protection, performance optimization, safety, and operational cost efficiency.

   Air curtains create sterile barriers in medical and laboratory environments, protecting against airborne contaminants.

• Preventing Respiratory Risks: Food processing tasks such as milling, grinding, or mixing can generate dust that poses respiratory risks for workers. Proper ventilation captures and removes these particles, protecting workers from inhaling harmful substances.
• Maintaining Comfortable Working Conditions: Processing machinery generates heat, which can create uncomfortable working conditions, especially in enclosed spaces. Effective ventilation helps regulate temperature, reducing heat stress and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations on workplace temperature.
• Reducing Chemical Exposure: Sanitizing agents and chemical preservatives, often necessary in food processing, can release fumes that are harmful if inhaled. Ventilation systems prevent the accumulation of hazardous gases, helping to keep air quality within safe limits.
